1 MW of PV was built in Cyprus resulting 10 PV parks. The total PV power of the island is now at 25 MW, with up to 100 MW more due in the next two years.

These 10 new built parks were inaugurated this weekend. The firms that installed them are Ergo Energy Ltd and GeSolar Ltd. The total cost of the project reaches up to €2.7 million.

The provided energy will be bought by the Electricity Authority of Cyprus providing an income of nearly €600,000.

10 kWh of energy are expected to be generated annually by the new photovoltaic constructions.

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism announced that the program includes 5000 households which will have PV installations by the end of this year.

The ministry will fund only 2000 of these houses and the next 3000 appliances will be selected on income basis. Moreover, the ministry announced that applications for commercial and industrial buildings will also be accepted.

This program expands gradually in order to provide stability for the electricity system.

The president of Cypriot Energy Regulatory Authority announced that Cyprus’s electricity system face some challenges. For instance, the demand of energy has gone down because of the country’s economic problems.
